Something to Think About - April 5, 2020

Dr. Spencer Barclay gives us Something to Think About

PRIDE:

In the Bible, Pride is considered to be one seven deadly sins. Now really all sins are considered equally the same but if there were gradations of sins, then Pride would probably rank near, if not at, the top. After all, Pride is spoken of throughout the entire Bible, and notably in Proverbs.
Proverbs 8:13 - The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride and arrogance, and the evil way...
Proverbs 11:2 - When pride comes, then comes shame...
Proverbs 16:18 - Pride goes before destruction.

It was pride that caused Satan to challenge God: Ezekiel 28
It was pride that prompted Pharaoh to refuse God: Exodus 4 - 12
It was pride that resulted in the Pharisees judging in the place of God: Matthew 6 and 23
and it was pride that made the wise to become like fools and deny God: 1 Corinthians 1: 20-21 and Psalms 14: 1

Now if mankind denies God and keeps not His ordinances, then the world becomes much as it was in the time of Genesis 6, when "5God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth". The same seems to be the case
today because much of mankind still denies God and does not follow His direction so that much of man's activity is to self and in disregard of Him.

If one watches the world's leaders in their homes and motorcades, it is easy to see the IMPORTANCE they feel about themselves.
If one looks at the Armed Forces of the many nations, it is easy to appreciate the POWER that's involved,
and by examining the many financial institutions and economics involved, then the WEALTH that nations control.
With all this do we need God?

In Deuteronomy 28, it is said that if we heed His word that blessings with be bestowed upon us, blessings in our lives, in our health, our harvests, in our cities, and in our fields. But if we do not heed his instructions, then curses will befall us, problems in our cities and fields,
problems with our harvests, conflicts, pestilences, sickness and more.
Satan challenged God and he was thrown down.
Pharaoh refused God and he was defeated.
The Pharisees judged in place of God and they were rebuked.
And the wise who denied God? Well they became us, content with their IMPORTANCE, their WEALTH and POWER and thereby built our present world. And yet, it took only a small piece of protein, a strip of RNA with a capsule, something not even truly alive, to bring the
entire world to its knees in just 8 weeks,  A warning?      I don't really know.

Of course this is all just speculation on my part, but when you look at the overall picture, well, it certainly gives one something to think about!
