Pastor Caroline - April 9, 2020

I am at a loss for words today as I think about this day in the time of Jesus. My heart is heavy. He knew this would be his last day, (before his crucifixion,) to spend time with his disciples. He would share the Last  Supper (the Passover Meal) with them, come evening. During this meal He would tell them that one of them sitting with Him at the table would betray Him. He calls it out by saying, “he who has dipped his hand in the bowl with Me (as a pretense  of friendship) will betray Me”, as we read in Matthew Chapter  26 Verse 23 from The Amplified Study Bible Can you imagine how you would feel,  to know someone whom you trusted in friendship, would turn his back on you? Jesus gave the man strong warning by saying to him; “It would have been good for that man if he had never been born”, as we read in the latter part of Chapter  26 Verse 24. I am taking the scripture from The Amplified Study Bible and as we continue in our reading we read where Jesus has The Lord‘s Supper with his disciples. In our churches today we celebrate Communion (sharing in the Lord’s Supper) and during communion we do as Jesus did with His disciples. We share the bread (the broken body of Christ) and the wine (the blood of Christ poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins).  We follow His instructions to do this in memory of Him.  During Holy Week we are to remember “all“ Jesus did for us. I think of a song called “When  He was on the Cross I was on His Mind”. Also “The Old Rugged Cross“ comes to mind. The words of the songs/ hymns stir my heart and remind me of His love for all of us.

Take today and remember that without His broken body and His shed blood the remission of sins could not be possible. His obedience to the Father purchased our salvation on the old rugged Cross and when He was on the cross we were “all“ on His mind.
