Here's some notes from Sunday's service. (Thanks, Jean)

Dr. Barclay - Something to Think About:
The Christian walk may not be easy or convenient, but it worth it.

People sometimes lose their excitement and zeal for Christ. Paul gave up everything to serve Christ wealth and position. He was shipwrecked and even suffered in bonds being jailed. Paul had endured so much, yet he stayed faithful. Like many Christians being persecuted for their faith in many parts of the world today.
Philippians 3:14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
People who come to Christ and then leave are considered backsliders. When the christian walk becomes diluted, backsliding happens, having a divided obedience and slowly ignoring God altogether. When people give up on fellowship with other believers, stop reading the bible and mingle with other religions, they are going down a dangerous and destructive path.
Relationship with God requires us to be active participants, it is something we do and must pursue to the end of our lives. 100% with our whole heart. We cannot become slack or give up. We must look to the example of biblical heroes such as Paul and persecuted Christians suffering throughout the world today.

Pastor Caroline – Christ is far greater and above anything we go through and that the world throws at us.

James 1:9:17
God grows us through the word. As we age we understand the word better with a different mind than we had before. God’s word will bring us comfort, when we truly mediate on it. We will never be successful when we try to do things on our own. We need to trust God and his timing. When we go through a trial and hard times we cannot say where was God, or blame others. During those times we must lean into God and get closer to him. God is above everything in our lives. The storm we are going through is never too great for God to handle. Our actions need to be louder than words in our times of trial. When we trust God and fully surrender to him, it allows us to overcome the world.
1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Dr. Barclay – Something to think about

The bible testifies, what God has done before he will do again.
Life does not seem fair for many people at times. The bible tells us the secret things belong to God and the most secret thing is the future. The bible tells us many things about the future that are exemplified in the past, what God has done before he will do again. Christ came in the past and he will come again. If we study the bible and learn from the past we will understand the future and be ready for it, not with fear but with eager anticipation.
Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.
Revelation 22: 20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.”
Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

Rev. Roxann Spicer
Message- Times of hardship will cause our christian witness to be stronger and more effective.

James 1:2-5
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
God tests our faith for our own betterment. Let endurance do it’s work producing a perfect result in us. God’s testing will leave us lacking nothing, as our time of trial produces wisdom, strength and courage.
James 1:6-8 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
A double minded man is full of restlessness and panic and he cannot get close to God because he is not focused, nor in agreement with God. Christ promises to never leave us nor forsake us. He will be our shield and refuge. With the promises of God at hand, we can cast off all negative thought and dwell on God’s goodness and trust in his faithfulness.
