Notes from Sunday's service: (Thanks Jean)

Pastor Bob Ring – Message: God calls us to be meek, yet always alert and never deceived.

Christians are to avoid useless arguments, but simply stand firm on the word of God. We have to be confident in who we are as Christians.
Matthew 5:3-5
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.

Meekness for the Christian means to be confident in our own ability and the power of God, no need to fret or be upset.
Life is simple and need not to be complicated. If something is wrong in the bible, it is still wrong today. If something is right in the bible, it will always be right. Sin is still sin, it does not change.
Governments and popular culture and the entertainment world have deceived many people into believing what is wrong is right and what is wrong is simply OK and that we must accept it.
The Christian is to hold firm to what they know is right and not accept sin as alright and OK.
Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
We have to be meek and gentle with others, yet still be confidently rooted firm and strong in the word of God. God loves everyone, that is why he died for us all. Sadly some may reject the gospel message, but our job is to still tell them and not be discouraged. Keep telling the gospel message in meekness, love and gentleness.

Notes from Sunday's service:    (Thanks, Jean)

Dr. Barclay
Theme: Prayer
Prayer does not always have to be audible or in tongues or in a church. Truly, all prayer is simply talking with God, communication with the Lord from our heart.

Prayer
Who - Everyone
When - All the time
Where – Everywhere

Everybody should pray. We should and need to pray all the time, everywhere we may be.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Jesus showed us the greatest example of how to pray in Matthew 6:9-13
Our Father - Addressing the person we are praying to.
Hallowed be thy name – Praising and worshiping the one we are praying to.
We must be sincere and humble and have faith when we pray.
There are different ways people pray, it can be in public or in private, loudly or silently, some prayers are long, some are short and some are repetitious. However all that matters is that our prayers are sincere and from the heart. Any way we pray is O.K. as long as we are sincere about what we say.

Dr. Barclay - Something to Think About
Theme: Righteousness Found Through Faith In Christ

We are all so fortunate to have the commandments, yet sadly we have all transgressed them at some time.
James 5:16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
How do we become righteous? By our faith in Christ.
Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.
Abraham placed his trust and confidence in God and stepped out in faith.
Through our faith in Christ as our Great Saviour we find righteous and we can have confidence when we pray.

Pastor Caroline Barclay
Theme: The Gifts And Fruit of the Spirit

Acts 2:1-4
Based on this scripture, sometimes the Holy spirit is depicted as a flame and other times as a dove (Matthew 3:16)and the spirit is also depicted as a blowing wind (John 3:8).
1 Corinthians 12:7-11
The gifts of the Holy Spirit are given as benefits to us all, we may not have them all, some of us may only have some of the gifts. Everybody having something builds up the church tremendously. We are not to worry or fret about the gifts, God will give us just what we need when we need it, so we will be blessed and bless others.
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
God wants us to bring the fruit of the Holy Spirit to other people. When we are operating in the gifts of the Spirit we will find life will be a whole lot better. The Holy Spirit becomes ours, when we believe on Jesus, receive him as Saviour and accept his gift of salvation. The Holy Spirit will bring conviction to the sinner, regenerate the believer gone astray and guide and teach the believer following Christ.

Peter MacLaren
Theme: Fear Is From The Devil
We are all winners if we are in Christ. The christian is never to think or feel defeated. God wants us to stand and face the enemy, the devil. Right now, the biggest enemy of the church and the christian is fear. Throughout his word God tells us not to fear.
Psalm 118:6 The Lord is on my side;
I will not fear.
What can man do to me?

When God tells us to do something he will empower us to do it. We need to look at life through God’s eyes and not be hindered by our own abilities. When we serve God we go forward with him together and reject fear.

Rev. Vincent Hanley.
Theme: Do Not Leave This World Without The Power Of The Holy Ghost
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Once we receive we receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost, every day will change like never before. Christ’s death, burial and resurrection is a typology, of when we receive Christ, our sinful nature is dead and buried and our new spiritual nature rises up as fresh new life.
Faith is not enough for the Christian, repentance and obedience must accompany faith and follow us throughout life. Obedience is essential, we must obey the word of God.When we choose to follow Christ we cross over onto the right line and walk therein. If we think the word of God is not important, we are gambling eternity away.
We should always seek, want and desire the baptism of the Holy Ghost- it is for us today! The Holy Ghost leads us into all truth affirming the word of God. We cannot receive power if we stay in the same old sinful nature we were born in. Ultimately the word of God is about life and death – we always make the choice!
