Service of Sunday April 26, 2015

Some notes from Sunday’s service: (Thanks, Jean)

After the opening music by the Master’s Hand Singers, Dr. Barclay gave us Something to Think About

Revelation 4:1-11

Today there are wars and various weather disasters happening around the world. Imagine if there were weather disasters and wars happening in every part of the world all the time. It is only by the grace of God that many catastrophes are held back.

When Christ came into the world it started what is known as the Age of Grace or the Church age. However this era is about to end very soon and a time of Judgment is coming. Christ is coming again with all power and authority.

Much of the church today is like the Church of Laodicea (Rev 3:14-22), neither hot nor cold. It is not standing firm for the gospel and is allowing any popular thought of the day to pass through.

Many Churches are neglecting to preach what is in the Bible. Many Churches are only preaching what people want to hear and not the truth that people need to hear.

In reading Revelation, the church of Smyrna (Rev 2:8-11) is the true example of a humble Christian church. However in the wealthier, democratic parts of the world today, the Laodicean  (Rev 3:14-22) church is what we find most common.

Pastor Caroline:

The theme of Pastor Caroline's message was on the importance of prayer.

Many scriptures to review and study are:

Matthew 6: 25-34                Psalm 37:9

Philippians 4: 19                Hebrews 4:16

Psalm 46:10                       1 Peter 5:6-7

God wants to be patient when waiting for an answer to prayer. We are not to fret or be anxious. We are to remain calm and be at peace that God will answer prayer in his own special way. God's timing is always best, not ours. God remains the same yesterday, today and forever. We need to believe that God will answer prayer in the way that is best for us.

Christians should come to God constantly and persistently. We should never feel alone in prayer, we should always be ready to seek Christian friends to pray along with us.

We should be available at all times for God to use us. Christians need to be continuously busy doing God's work and sowing into His kingdom.  We cannot just sit around and wait for blessings to find us.

God is always with us. We are never alone, we should always pray for his protection, whether driving in the car or walking down the street. Always give thanks to God for the answer before you have even received it.  Thank God for the blessing before it even comes.

Service of Sunday April 19, 2015

Here's some notes from Sunday's service.  (Thanks, Heather)

Hi All.

The last thing I do before bed... sending out the bulletins and notes from tonight :)

'Something to Think About'

- Revelations 1:5 - "and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.'

- Revelations 2:13 -  "... you hold fast My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days of Antipas, My witness, My faithful one, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.'

- Faithful Witness... 'SURE'... to know that you know!

- Paul's Conversion, for example, he had absolute faith in what he spoke about!

- Faithful to the Faith!

- Are the days of being a 'faithful witness' gone?

- Something to think about!

Message tonight was from Pastor Todd; another great captivating message.

(pre-message in the bulletin "Proclaim The Kingdom")

- Matthew 8:21, 22

- Luke 9:60

- Jesus says there will always be death, but I'm here for only a short time, and I want to see you working.

- We have to die to self.

- 'let the dead (or influence) bury the dead'

- Cut ties with the world

- Choose life

- Romans 4... Your old self died; death has no power.

- to break the bond of death on the world, Jesus died!!

- Some excuses for not attending church: Someone sat in my seat, they changed the music, they didn't put me in charge of nursery, I didn't get lead worship leader, Sunday's are the only day for me

- People make these 'reasons' for not attending church BUT we need each other!... 'cause when we walk out that door of the church, death is waiting!

- The devil will try to find a way to put a wedge between you and those of great influence.

- Hatred is from the devil!

- When you can release the hatred to God, the love is released... Let go and let God!!

- The death he holds DOES NOT WIN!!!

- There are 2 guarantees: Taxes and death

- Loop holes: Tax credits and death has no power because Christ conquered death!

In closing we sang, 'It is Well With my Soul'

Those things holding you low... have a little chat with God!!... I'm sure he's been waiting for you!! :)

Don’t forget to pray for all those young and old who are homeless.

Please pray for all Pictou County churches.

Service of Sunday April 12, 2015

In her opening comments Pastor Caroline said that we should start each day with God's word. If we have trouble doing this, just take a look at Peters Picks for inspiration.

Peter MacLaren gave the financial report. We are blessed to be able to help those in need as we do. Thank you for your generous support.

John and Roxann Spicer blessed the service with their music.

Something to think about by Spencer Barclay.
Pride. The father of all Sins.

Message by Pastor Dave MacLean

·        Jesus has us in this world to continue with His work with the help of the Holy Spirit.

·        There are times when we have to wait on the Lord.  We should go out and do the possible and He will do the impossible.

·        Sometimes pride will keep us from believing that all things are possible.

·        God will never leave you or forsake you no matter what the problem, sickness, unemployment, whatever. We are Winners.

·        Stay in Faith. God wants the best for us.

·        Man doesn't control our destiny; God controls our destiny.

·        He spoke of the miracles in his life.

·        Only God is the healer.

·        Faith is something we can't see.

·        Victory comes in Faith.

·        God wants us to be happy, worry free.

·        God can defeat a giant with a 15 year old boy. He can do anything.

·        We can be the hand of God. Help your neighbors, buy someone a coffee.

·        Faith is the victory that overcomes the world.

Some highlights of Sunday's service.  (Thanks, Jean)

Dr. Barclay- Something to Think About-

The Christian life is something we have to be actively involved in. The Christian life is not like watching a play or a movie on TV.

We are active participants not spectators.

Exodus Chapter 12

God commanded the Israelites to take a Lamb into their house and love it as a pet. (Verses 3 to 6)

The value of the sacrificed lamb was stressed in these verses, the people were to know and love this lamb.

A comparison to the life of Jesus is noted here. Jesus preached and traveled among men. People got to know Jesus and loved him during his life and ministry here on earth.

The lamb that the Israelites were to sacrifice as commanded in Exodus chapter 12, is a mirror image to Jesus, a male Lamb without blemish. Like the precious animal that the Israelites were commanded to sacrifice. Jesus was without sin, without blemish. (Exodus 12 Verse 5)

Exodus 12 Verses 13

The blood of the lamb on the upper door posts of the houses, saved the lives of all those who obeyed God.

This serves also a mirror image of Christ death on the cross. Our salvation has been purchased through Christ's shed blood.

Christ's shed blood serves a covering over our hearts, saving us through eternal salvation. Like the lambs blood upon the door posts saved the Hebrews and all who obeyed from death and the angel of death passed by and they were saved.

We can have full confidence and know that the Bible is true.

Jesus died and was buried before sunset. He rose from the grave and was seen by many witnesses.

God's plan can often be thought of as a multiple part theater play.

1st part was Christ time on earth and his death on the cross.

The present time that we are living in is the intermission. It can be seen as the time of grace, mercy and forgiveness.

2nd part is when Christ returns as Lord of Lords and King of Kings dressed in the finest of royalty, accompanied by the armies of Heaven.

A two edged sword coming from his mouth- a time of Judgement.

Revelation 2:11
"He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. he that overcometh shall not be hurt  of the second death."

Pastor Caroline: Evening Sermon

John 20:1-18
Mary Magdalene, sees Jesus and is comforted by him. Her sadness is taken away.

Pastor Caroline read from a Book written by Oswald Chambers

"The incarnation of Christ would have no meaning without the cross. The cross is the gate where we abide with the one who was found there."

Pastor Caroline stressed the importance, that one day we will stand before God and look back upon the cross with thanksgiving and appreciation. The heart of salvation is the cross of Christ. Jesus is now seated at the right hand of God the Father and now advocates for us to the Father on our behalf.

Pastor Caroline spoke of how when she went to the Holy Land, seeing the empty tomb was a powerful and precious, humbling time for her.

The song is true, that while Jesus was on the Cross he was thinking of us.

The story of the cross and the resurrection should ever remind us all of our own mortality and Judgement.

This time of Passover and Easter should be time of personal conviction and cause us to make our hearts right with God as soon as possible.

Communion was observed by the congregation. This was a powerful service with excellent teaching.
