Pastor Caroline's Devotional - April 11, 2020
Good morning everyone, our Bible readings today are:
Isaiah Chapter 53 verses 1 to 12, the entire chapter. In my bible it is entitled “The Suffering Servant”.
Also Acts Chapter 2 verses 25 to 31. Please read at your leisure.
Now let me bring you to David Jeremiah‘s devotional reading today from his book, Daily in His Presence and it’s entitled Steadfast. David calls our attention to the scripture from Hebrews Chapter 6 verse 12, and I went to my bible to read it and The Amplified Study Bible reads this way:
(12) so that you will not be (spiritually)sluggish, but (will instead be) imitators of those who through faith (lean on God with absolute trust and confidence in Him and in His power) and by patient endurance (even when suffering) are (now )inheriting the promises.
I love how that reads. It cause us to stay steadfast.
To be steadfast is to stay firm, unwavering in what we do.
Right now we must remain steadfast as we battle COVID-19. Each one of us must do our part in adhering to the directives given to us by government and the medical experts who are trying so very hard to keep us all safe and protected from this virus. Thank you to all the front line people who are putting themselves and their loved ones at risk, to serve us in so many areas. Too many sectors off people to name (lest I forget someone) but please know that without all of you our world would collapse. Thank you for remaining steadfast in every area of service you provide. We hold you in our prayers and ask God to put a shield of protection around you. You are such a blessing to everyone. You are truly appreciated.
David’s reading today tells us the Bible is full of God’s promises and he names three of them.
1 The promise of His care
2 The promise of His coming
3 The promise of His company.
These are wonderful promises, thank you Lord.
As we study the Bible we see many promises from Genesis through Revelation.
Here are just a few to think about;
God promises to give us peace that goes beyond our understanding, He promises to bless us and keep us from harm. He promises to hear our prayers and answers them according to His will, He promises to forgive our sin if we confess our sins to Him.
During this Holy Week we are reminded of the scripture found in 1 John chapter 2 Verse 2, and reading from the Good News Bible we read,
(2) And Christ himself is the means by which our sins are forgiven, and not our sins only, but also the sins of everyone.
There are so many more promises found in the word of God. Perhaps today you will pick up your bible and see how many you can find. This will help you spend some time with God today and you will enjoy this well spent time.
When we read the promises of God and we claim them, we must believe that He will stay steadfast in His promise, and He will! Lamentations Chapter 3 verse 22 from the Good News Bible it reads,
(22) The Lord’s unfailing love and mercy still continue,
This tells me His promises are to be claimed and believed, always.
So in these trying times let’s claim the promises of the Lord to see us through. If the promises written to the veteran Christians long ago carried them through new threats and troubles, (see Hebrews 10:32-36), as David says in our devotional reading today; then let’s stand on the promises of God today and everyday from now till eternity. He (God) keeps His promises as we see in
1 Kings chapter 8 verse 56, (Good News Bible)
(56) “Praise the Lord who has given His people peace, as He promised He would. He has kept all the generous promises He made through his servant Moses”.
May we all live in the promises of our Lord.
Be blessed in this day the Lord has made for you.
As David says in our devotional, we need every promise God has given us so we can stand and look up without wavering.
