Notes from Sunday's Service  (Thank, Jean)

Dr. Barclay- Something to Think About
We must remember our words have weight, and uphold the promises we make.
If we are to receive the blessings of God we must fully believe what he said. People often wonder will God really answer our prayer. And yet people often make promises to God and do not keep them. Scripture teaches us when we make a vow to anyone we must keep it, especially to the Lord.
Deuteronomy 23:21 When you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay to pay it; for the Lord your God will surely require it of you, and it would be sin to you
In Acts 5 Ananias and his wife Sapphia, sold a piece of property and promised to give the profits to the Lord. Yet he kept back part of the profits for himself and presented the rest to the apostles. Ananias and his wife faced divine consequences for breaking their vow to the Lord. As scripture tells us they lost their very lives. The story of this couple, serves as a great reminder to us of the importance of the words we say and promises we make.
It would be far wiser for us not to make promise at all, it we do not intend to keep it or cannot keep it.

Pastor Caroline Barclay- Waiting on God
When pray we pray, no matter how long it takes for the answer to come we cannot give up.
If we wait on God, the answer will be far better than we could imagine and it will be for his glory. We need to trust God, to come along side us and do something far greater than we could ever do on our own.
There is never a time when God does not see or know what we need.
Psalm 55:22 Cast your cares on the Lord
and he will sustain you;
he will never let
the righteous be shaken.

Proverbs 15:29 The Lord is far from the wicked,
But He hears the prayer of the righteous.
There are many examples of people in the bible waiting on God over a long time to bring an answer and make a breakthrough in their life, such a Joseph waiting while in jail and Ruth waiting while serving her mother in law. Job waited on God after losing his property and children, yet we read in Job chapter 42, God restored what was lost far beyond what Job could have ever imagined.
