Sunday June 10, 2018

Here's the notes from Sunday's service.  (Thanks, Jean)

Rev. Roxann Spicer
Theme: Christ calls us to live our life fresh and new each day, never longing for yesterday.

Ezekiel 36:22-30
26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgements and do them.
God takes our heart of stone and he crushes it. He then gives us a new heart of compassion and kindness.
Matthew 9:16-17
No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse. 17 Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
Just like the new wine put into new wineskins. God puts his Holy Spirit into our new heart. Where there is new wine there is power. We need to let go of the old stuff in our life and let God fully fill us with his new wine.
Matthew 8:18-22
And when Jesus saw great multitudes about Him, He gave a command to depart to the other side. Then a certain scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.” 20 And Jesus said to him,“Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” 21 Then another of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 22 But Jesus said to him, “Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”
Christ tells the people, they have a choice to make. Their family or him? Their tradition or him?
God does not want us to be parked in life. He does not want us to be stagnant, stale or complacent.
God wants to break down the old religious spirit and bring new fire and revival to all of us.
Salvation is not the end for the christian, it is just the beginning. When we serve the Lord we are always in forward motion. We cannot look back in life and long for another time. What worked back then, may not work now or tomorrow. We always go forward with Christ never backward.
