Pastor Caroline - Let Your Words Be Sweet

Let Your Words Be Sweet

Proverbs Chapter 16 Verse24 in the Good News Bible tells us:

(24) Kind words are like honey – sweet to the taste and good for your health.

In the New King James Version it reads:

Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

These beautiful words were written by Solomon, a wise man according to 1 Kings Chapter 4 Verses 29 to 32. We read in the Good News Bible this about Soliman.

(29) God gave Solomon unusual wisdom and insight, and knowledge too great to be measured.

(30) Solomon was wiser than the wise men of the east or the wise men of Egypt.

(31) He was the wisest of all men: wiser than Ethan and Darda, the sons of Mahol, and his fame spread throughout all the neighbouring countries. He composed three thousand proverbs and more than a thousand songs.

From this profile we can see Solomon was a man who we can derive much wisdom and knowledge from by studying his writings.

Well today let’s look at his proverb concerning kind words. Kind, gentle, gracious words are wonderful words to hear. Here in Proverbs Chapter 15 Verse 4 GNB we read:

(4) A person’s words can be a source of wisdom, deep as the ocean, fresh as a flowing stream.

We know when we speak kind, gentle, gracious words to loved ones, friends, neighbours and strangers we are sowing goodness into their lives. Words have power; to build up or to tear down. Our words can change a situation of hard times into a situation of moving forward with determination. We are able to help one another with the power of our words. The Bible teaches us words heal and strengthen the body, mind and spirit. Words can bring forth good fruit when we train up ourselves and those around us to speak kind, gentle, gracious, strong and life-changing words; then, we will see growth in a positive way.

I am not going to spend time here on negative words but you all know what negativity brings. It brings brokenness, sickness, heartache, causes stress, breaks down or immune system and possibly early death, just to name a few. Enough of this, so now let’s bring on the positive!!!

Positivity will help us be stronger, help us heal quicker, relieve stress, build up our immune system and add years to our lives, to name a few. Oh yes, and positive people are pleasant to be around, are confident and share that confidence with us, building us in our confidence. We learn from them how to face life‘s challenges in a positive way to bring out the very best possible outcome in any given situation or circumstance. They speak with words that are wise, words that are kind, gentle, and gracious – words like honey.

Why does Solomon say that words are like honey? Well let’s look at what honey does for our body. Has your physician ever told you to take honey to add to your daily intake? Perhaps your grandmother shared some honey related remedies over the years. Well I have heard honey is like an antidepressant, (much like chocolate 🙂), helping to lift your depression. I am certainly not a doctor but just add a little honey to your food and enjoy the sweetness along with the benefits. This is my free prescription for the day. 😊

Honey can heal a wound we learn from medicine especially for a burn victim. I remember hearing of a young burn victim and the medical team used honey (especially made for medical purposes) on her wounds.

Honey is rich in antioxidants, good for blood sugar, improves heart health, help suppress coughing in children (and us older folk as well), promotes burn and wound healing and his vitamins and minerals. Thanks to Google I found all this information.

My grandmother took honey before going to bed for a sound sweet sleep she said, and, apparently there is medical evidence that it does help one sleep better.

Maybe this gift of honey given to us by nature from God’s hand does much more than we know. Soliman knew more than we will ever know and for one sure thing, he apparently knew why words were like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

So remember; kind, gentle, and gracious words make us happier people who others want to be around. Our words can inspire others and build them up. Our words can bring healing to a sorrowful situation. Words can teach, instruct, guide and bring about positive results. Words can literally save a life!!

Today, share some words of love, joy, faith, endurance and peace. Change someone’s life by speaking words of encouragement, guidance, hope, perseverance and show them the power of God in His word. Bring out the best in you and in others by sharing words that are sweet to the taste and good for the bones as Solomon teaches us to do.

Now take some time to sit in the presence of God thanking Him for His wisdom from the Bible, and worship Him with your words that are like honey (🍯) on your lips.

Enjoy the sweetness of the day in His presence.
