Some notes from Sunday's sermon.  (Thanks, Jean)

Theme: Miracles can happen for us today just like they did for Paul and Silas, when we pray and praise God.

1 Corinthians 6:19
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
-The Holy Spirit dwells in each one of us who has received Christ as Lord and with his help wonderful things can happen, we would have never dreamed of.

Acts 16:16-34 ----A demon is cast of of the fortunetelling woman, Paul Silas are jailed and the jailer receives Christ and he and his household are saved.
Acts 16:18-19 Paul and Silas spoke and lashed out at the evil spirit not the girl.

-Many times we have to recognize the evil spirits behind a situation, not just the individuals.

Acts 16:23 Paul and Silas had many stripes laid on them and they were cast into jail.

-Sometimes in life we have to receive and bare stripes, before we can bare true fruit of the spirit in our lives.

Acts 16:25 At the midnight hour Paul and Silas were filled with prayer and songs of praise.

-Miracles happen when we have a praise party and not a pity party.

Acts 16:26 A sudden earthquake caused the foundation of the prison to be shaken. The doors were opened and the chains were loosened and not just Paul and Silas, all the prisoners.

- When the Holy Spirit comes, he touches everyone, not just a select few.

2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

Acts 16:27-28 The jailer awoke, seeing the prison doors open, he was fearful, took out his sword and was about to kill himself. Paul in kindness and mercy told the jailer  “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.”

- The jailer awoke from his natural sleep and also greater still from his spiritual sleep. Sometimes God does awesome things when we are in not so pleasant places. Christlike character, godly behaviour and love of others, will cause others to say just like the jailer in Acts 16:30  “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

God heard the praises of Paul and Silas and God showed up and miracles happened. Just like in King David’s time and Paul and Silas time the anointing is still and always needed. Programs and the ideas of man will never work by themselves. Paul and Silas had a Holy Ghost anointed praise service and the Glory of the Lord came down; chains were broken, people were saved and baptized. In the end, when life is over, it will not matter what denomination we were, what will matter is what we did with Jesus.
