Sunday Night Service

Dr. Barclay

Theme: Love

Christ told us to love one another. The greatest love, one can

show is what Christ did for us by laying down his life.

Neither Buddha or Mohammed laded down their life for

mankind. Thus the message of the gospel is different and

unique from all other religions.

Christ wants us to be:

1) Submissive

Deuteronomy 4:1-2

4 Now, Israel, hear the decrees and laws I am about to teach you. Follow them so that you may live and may go in and take possession of the land the Lord, the God of your ancestors, is giving you. 2 Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.
If we love God we will keep his commandments. We must do what he asks us to do.
2) Worship triumphantly
Brag up God's attributes.
Revelation 7:9-12
9 After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice:
“Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb.”

11 All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying:
“Amen!
Praise and glory
and wisdom and thanks and honor
and power and strength
be to our God for ever and ever.
Amen!”

3) Witness Urgently
Show we appreciate what God has given us.
Luke 12:8
8 “I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God.
4) Work fervently
By faith we are saved, by works we are judged.
Revelation 22:12
12 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
5) We are to watch with anticipation for Christ's return.
When we follow through with these things we will have Christ for our Valentine.

Theme: Putting our spiritual gifts to work through love.
There is nothing fake about God's love and it is not short term. Lent is a time of refocus and examining our lives. Through the scriptures God reveals himself and straightens us out.
1 Corinthians 12: 1-2
12 Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. 2 You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
Psalm 36:5-9
Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,
    your faithfulness to the skies.
6 Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.
7 How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!
People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
8 They feast on the abundance of your house;
you give them drink from your river of delights.
9 For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light
There is a Greek word for love Agape which means general affection for mankind. Unconditional self-sacrificing love.
We have to use the gifts God has given us because the body of Christ will be healthier and grow. God will reward us. There is wonderful joy in using our spiritual gifts, we need to us them and make an impact in our corner of the world.
Those who the world calls trash. Jesus calls treasures.
David was a man after God's own heart. Scripture tells us he repented before God and was truly contrite.
Palm 51:10-17
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.

17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

Lent is a time to reflect, if we are not using our spiritual gifts we should start now.

Philippians 4:6
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

When we are fully trusting God there is no place for worry in our lives.
