Dr. Barclay: The Bible Is The Greatest Parenting Book.

Marketing is very powerful. Children have learned and seen Disney characters since they were infants, all because of a mouse almost one hundred years ago.

Proverbs 22:5-6

Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse;
He who guards his soul will be far from them.

 6 Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.

Many times today children are not trained in the way they should go. Parents have let the marketers and Disney characters do the training. However the Bible speaks very clearly about parental responsibility and how it cannot be neglected at all costs.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.

Rise up a child in they way they should go, then in spite of all the magic and all the TV., they will not depart from it.

Pastor Caroline: From The Manger To The Cross

Sadly today many people are wrapped up in the heaviness of Christmas and they are not looking to Jesus as they should. Without Jesus at Christmas we would not have the cross. Joseph did not father Jesus in the physical but fathered him in faith. At Christmas we receive the gift of love and life. At Easter we receive the gift of forgiveness and eternal salvation. Remember the spirit of Christmas is joy and peace and the reason is Jesus.

Hebrews 1:1-4

Who we as Christians are----we are in God’s likeness.

Genesis 1:26-27

What we say reveals, what we believe.

Matthew 12:33-35

What we believe is what we repeat.

James 3:10-12

What we repeat is what we will receive.

Proverbs 18:20-21

Matthew 17:18-20

18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Christ promises that we are never alone. He will always be with us even until the end of the age, he gives us the power to go forth and make disciples in his name. And Praise God, for that, what encouragement the Christian has.

We cannot let fear of the unknown and unbelief, rob us of God’s peace. God wants us to be at peace, when we have the inner peace, that only God can give we will be a greater and more effective witness to others. We need to remember to pray for ourselves. It is never a selfish thing to pray for ourselves. We should never speak doubt over our circumstances. We need to speak faith and trust in God over our circumstances. We cannot live according to what our circumstances look like. We have to live according to what God says. We need to speak his word over our lives. God is in control regardless of what happens, our lives need to to be a testament that we are truly trusting in God’s faithfulness.

Something to Think About - Dr. Barclay: Who do we say Christ is? Is he truly the Lord of our life?

Matthew 16:13-18

13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

Peter heard and he saw Christ, and there was an inspiration and there was a prophecy. The prophets of the old testament speak to us, about great faith, they believed what they had seen and heard of all that God had done. Today the question is, do we believe? Humans are without excuse, we have heard through God’s word what he has done.

There is a wonderful prophecy for the sincere christian- 1 Corinthians 2:9

9 But as it is written:“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

The question for us to think about is who do we say Christ is?.......is he the Lord and reigning King of your heart?.....if not,...make him so today, without delay.

 Jacquie Ross: Early apostles... models for us all!

John 1:19-50

Andrew was the first of the twelve to recognize Jesus as the messiah and recruited his brother Simon Peter to follow Jesus. The early disciples had an eagerness to learn, a love of prophecy and a joy to tell others about Jesus. It was not easy for these 1^stcentury disciples to share Christ with others, it came with hardships in their day, just as well as ours today. We should all share Andrew’s missionary zeal.

Acts 16:16-31

This passage talks of the testimony of Paul and Silas, through thrown in prison, (due to praying that a demon leave a slave girl, which it did, which caused the zealous slave owners to lose profit.) they did not give up and were not ashamed of Christ, they were praying and singing hymns to God even in the midst of a dudgeon of death and decay. They did not wallow in self pity and despair.The joy they displayed, praying and singing in jail was a great witness to the other prisoners and the jailer (the prison guard). A miraculous earthquake happened causing everyone’s chains to to loosened and prisoners free. The jailer was so moved by what had happened, he asked Paul and Silas, what he could do to receive salvation and they instructed him to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. This scripture tells us salvation had come to him and his household and they were all baptized.

Paul and Silas were courageous and faithful, they made a great impact and are first century examples for us to follow.

Something to Think About

The Bible is the greatest love story. Christ’s love for his redeemed.

The bible is full of mysteries. But ultimately the bible is a love story from beginning to end.

Revelation 19:9

 Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.

Revelation 21:1-2

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Marriage during bible times was mostly arranged. At the appointed time Jesus left his home in heaven and came to earth, the home of the bride. And just like a husband, Christ will receive his bride, to take to his own home, when all the preparations are complete, at the appointed time of the Father’s instruction. Jesus is the groom, Christians are the bride of Christ, he preparing a home for us in heaven. Someday he will come again and receive us unto himself; therefore we must remain ever faithful so we will be ready for our groom. The bible is full of mysteries, but we can understand them if we study and are truly seeking and trusting in God.

John 14:1-3

 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

Wesley Whidden: Peace with God

The gospel is good news that must be announced and proclaimed.

Ephesians 6:14-15

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Christ died for all sins and provides spiritual and physical healing. Christ brings love and peace to those who are stressed and hurting.

Isiah 57:19

“I create the fruit of the lips:
Peace, peace to him who is far off and to him who is near,”
Says the Lord,
“And I will heal him.”

Peace comes with God’s presence. Peace is a powerful weapon. Powerful things will follow those who walk in peace. Christians should not walk in strife and contention, but rather in peace and contentment.

Philippians 4:6-8

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Do not let people who are negative, preaching false doctrines influence us. We must be at peace abiding in prayer and consoling ourselves with scripture.

Phillipans 4:12

12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

Dr. Barclay: How important it is to remember

When we attend Remembrance Day services on November 11^{th –} Do we really remember? Do we really think about the occasion and it’s meaning?

Somehow the world never gets away from war- history very often repeats itself, why doesn’t humanity ever learn?

The bible teaches us how short man’s memory is when it comes to the things of the Lord.

Joshua 24:31

31 Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had known all the works of the Lord which He had done for Israel.

Judges 2:8-10

8 Now Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died when he was one hundred and ten years old.9 And they buried him within the border of his inheritance at Timnath Heres, in the mountains of Ephraim, on the north side of Mount Gaash. 10 When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord nor the work which He had done for Israel.

Many war veterans died overseas for our freedom and the generations afterwards; when they personally did not know the people they were dying for. Jesus Christ loved us and loves us still that he died for us, long before we were conceived in our mother’s womb.

We remember the Veterans, but do we remember why they died.----For our freedom.

We remember Christ, but do we remember why he died?-----For our salvation.

John 15:13

13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

Pastor Caroline: Christ is the greatest teacher about love.

Love is a relationship

1 John 4:7-21

How do we know God loves us?-because he says in his word.

The bible says God so loved the world, and we are part of the world.

John 3:16

God calls us his children – that’s how much he loves us.

Romans 8:38-39

When we truly believe God loves us, it will prevent heartaches and loneliness, because we will not go astray, we will stay true to his word.

God gives protection, provision and steadfast assurance he is always with us and that we are never alone.

When we truly understand how much God loves us, we will be better able to love and care for others, because Christ is the greatest example and teacher of selfless love.
